The following list summarizes the steps required to recertify as a safety inspector. The process to recertify is the same if you do it through our website or at your local training center. All fees and requirements are the same.
Online Training Requirements:
Purchase the online training program.
Complete the training.
Pass quizzes online with a minimum score of 80%.
Print application.
Sign and mail the application with the all fields completed and $10 application fee to the Utah Highway Patrol. The $10 application
fee should be payable to "Utah Highway Patrol".
The Utah Highway Patrol address is:

It will take approximately 6 weeks for the UHP office to process your application.
CD Training Requirements:
Purchase the CD.
Complete the training.
Pass quizzes on the CD with a minimum score of 80%.
Print your final score from the last test of each section in which you are recertifying.
Mail the printed score page, completed application, and $10 application fee to ITS (address below). The $10 application fee should be payable to "Utah Highway Patrol".
At ITS the application and test scores will be verified and forwarded with the application fee to the Utah Highway Patrol.
It will take approximately 6 weeks for the UHP office to process your application.
One CD is required for each technician. You may only recertify for tests you have been previously certified in and have a certification number for. You may recertify up to one year after your inspection certificate has expired.
